Built in 1925, the Palladium began life as the First Church of Christ, Scientist. Architect Howard Lovewell Cheney designed the structure in a Romanesque Revival style. He drew inspiration from Renaissance-era Florence, especially Brunelleschi’s Ospedale degli Innocenti.
Crafted by the George A. Fuller Construction Company, the building quickly became an architectural anchor for the area. Because of its cultural and design importance, it later earned recognition as a contributing property within the North Shore Historic District. That district joined the National Register of Historic Places in 2003. After the congregation relocated in the late 1990s, the building entered a new chapter. It transformed into a performance venue, welcoming music and live arts. In 2007, the property was gifted to St. Petersburg College. From that moment forward, it became the Palladium at St. Petersburg College.
Over time, thoughtful renovations improved acoustics, seating, and lighting. More recently, a major capital investment approved in 2025 committed $13 million to upgrades.
